HITMAPS™ August 11, 2021 Roulette/Tournaments Release

Released: 2021-08-11 9:00 PM EDT

Major updates for the HITMAPS Roulette and HITMAPS Tournaments Websites have been released! See the most notable changes, as well as the full list of changes. Note: Most users will not see most of these changes; however it is still worth sharing it here so everyone can see what goes on behind-the-scenes during Roulette Rivals tournaments.

HITMAPS™ Tournaments Changes

Map Pick / Bans Improvements

In previous iterations of Roulette Rivals, MrMike would have to update the site / database structure for each tournament to follow along with the ruleset. For example, he had to add in the “bans” for Roulette Rivals 5, as it was the first iteration that included map bans. Additionally, the Grand Finals could not be supported, purely due to the fact that the site was not designed to handle it.

With the latest release of the HITMAPS Tournaments site, match admins can now pick an arbitrary number of picks / bans:

Adding a new pick / ban is straightforward, simply by clicking “Add Map Pick/Ban”. Picks/bans can also be re-ordered (even though ban order does not matter), and easily removed.

Additional HITMAPS™ Tournaments Changes

  • When scheduling a match, decider maps will automatically be chosen when a match is scheduled. Here is how a decider is selected:
    • The entire map pool for the event is collected
    • Maps picked / banned by participants are removed from the list
    • A random map is selected using a Mersenne Twister algorithm
  • Various security improvements, including (but not limited to):
    • Added checks to ensure that users who claim to have permission to change match details actually have permission. The previous checks were a bit too lenient.
    • Added checks to ensure that users could not post match results to Challonge unless they are permitted to handle events for the server the event is taking place in.

HITMAPS™ Roulette Changes

New Tourney Admin Screen

The screen HITMAPS Tournaments admins use for Roulette Rivals matches has been re-written from the ground up. Rather than piggy-backing on the original homepage, a separate page has been built. As such, users will now see the a new screen when starting a HITMAPS Tournaments match:

This new page allows HITMAPS Roulette to support multiple on-going tournaments at the same time, and allows admins to clearly see what matches are on-going. Clicking “continue” will take them to the match dashboard.

Match Dashboard

Full-screen view of the match dashboard. (Ignore the white near the bottom as that’s an issue with the screenshot tool 😉)

Match admins from previous tournaments are used to the old match dashboard, which is very similar to this. However, this new dashboard has a few major differences compared to the old one:

  1. Map picks are now handled by the page automatically. Admins no longer need to remember and select each mission manually. As maps are played, the result for that map will be displayed in “Match History” and on the map icon itself on the top ribbon.
  2. Deciders are displayed to match admins at the beginning of the match. Match admins will no longer need to go visit a site like random.org to pick a decider, as HITMAPS has taken care of it for them.

Previous features are still maintained, including re-spinning specific conditions, scheduling a future spin time, and objectives tracking for Apex Predator (Berlin).

More specific information regarding how this page operates will be added to the HITMAPS Roulette documentation (…once it is created for the first time)

Additional HITMAPS™ Roulette Changes

  • Portions of the match are now synced to HITMAPS’ backend, allowing an admin to take over a match should the original admin be unable to complete officiating the match
    • The current spin conditions, objectives tracker, match length, and match time are not synced.
  • Simplified the overlay link process to ensure that admins do not accidentally send the wrong overlay link
  • Improved security to ensure that only match admins are permitted to officiate Roulette Rivals matches
